Correcting self centred thought

Having better control over one’s thinking mind.

The whole metabolic process of your body supports your mind and perception and your sense of existence. Then you need to understand that your mind is ethereal in nature. When you are alive it is like a projected screen in the cinema, the projector being the body and the mind the image on the screen. So the mind-screen is working as long as the body-projector is alive.

So we know these are the working frequencies of the body (brain)-mind:

This whole thing about the mind is very easy to see, so please don’t chit chat confuse yourself around this, make up some big star trek story about life and the mind and then all those metaphors about life just because you do not see the thing in itself about the mind. The body is alive the mind is alive. The mind is impermanent in nature, sometimes it is inflated and other times it is a flat tire, It all depends on the operating frequency of the brain. How many ways does one need to put this across for one to see the mind for what it is?

So when you are healthy the body-mind goes to sleep at night and it wakes up in the morning. Then the day will come when the projector gets faulty and it cannot create that image for you in mind again, then it is time to say goodbye. Sad so sad. So make the best of life while the mind can still inflate itself and the body is healthy and alive.

Just please remember this so you do not suffer your mind while the projector is still working: there is a part of you that is part of the Universe and it watches over everything Atman), including the shenanigans of the thinking mind, with all your opinions and biases and everchanging SELF in the mind. This is the deceitful part of the mind. If you are trapped in this part of your mind and not know of that part of you, your True Self, when all thinking in the mind has ended (sunyata), then you will suffer your mind until your last day when the projector stops working. One needs to discover your True Self and know it exists in you and that there is a part of you that is real and unchanging and which is part of the greater Universe so one can wrap that part of you around the frontline thinking mind that is ever-changing and elusive and deceitful and make sure it is always watching over you. For those of you who want God in your life you know, that is the closest you will come to a God in you while still in body-mind.

Make sure you have a “CORRECTED CENTRE” in Mind. Don’t be “enslaved” to the frontline thinking mind. Free yourself from it by knowing that there is a part of you that is True and unchanging, which you can depend on to not Lie to you. Intuitive awareness with insight, in the silent mind, is closer to your True Self than the frontline verbal thinking mind. Don’t get me wrong that both sides are required for your daily activities just know that that is that and this is this so you have better control over your thinking mind. Know the Truth in the Lie in You.

David Bohm on Krishnamurti and the problem of thought

“I think the ultimate purpose of K’s work was started very early on his life of his work which was to free humanity from the disruptive conditioning we have been talking about that is this conditioning around the self-centred thought is really an enslavement to absurdity, to disfunction, to unhappiness. No other kind of freedom means anything unless we are free from that and therefore I think he felt that once a man is free from that then the way will be open to creative unfoldment in all sorts of directions”

Reference from Video:

“K recognizes that a rational orderly factual thought, such as in proper doing sciences, is necessary and valuable, but the kind of thought he has in mind is self-centered thought.

At first sight one might wonder why self-centered thought is so bad. If the self is already there then perhaps it would be correct to center on the self because the self would be so important; but if the self is a kind of illusion, at least the self as we know it, then to center a thought on something illusory which is assumed to have supreme importance is going to disrupt the whole process. It will not only make thought about yourself wrong, it will make thought about everything wrong, so that thought becomes a dangerous and distractive instrument all around.

Because this illusory self, which is really an image, is regarded as all important, whenever anything about it appears to be threatened, the brain develops a very powerful defense mechanism to try to prevent this from taking place. You can see this in an elementary way: if somebody says you are an idiot, the image of yourself as an idiot is painful and there is an automatic response to accept assumptions proving you are not an idiot and somebody else is an idiot. But that’s the minor point.

The major point is that if somebody says something which threatens the reality of this whole structure itself, then it’s as if your whole life were at stake. All stops are pulled up. The brain responds with the instinct of self-preservation. It absolutely prevents you from considering. It may just dull the mind, or transfer attention somewhere else, or make you forget about it, or make you find yourself thinking of something else, any number of defenses.

It’s clear that when somebody like K comes along and says that this is an illusion, this isn’t there, this isn’t real, that this defense mechanism is going to be provoked into action, this then becomes the principal difficulty in listening to the communication.

Part of the defense is to make us unconscious of it. The major form of defense is simply concealment of what’s going on, because if we could see what’s going on, it would be obvious it’s an illusion. It’s like seeing through the trick of the magician. All the ways I’ve described, such as forgetting, zapping your mind or jumping to something else, are modes of concealment. You may also conceal by just denying that this is so and asserting something else. We are not conscious of this defense mechanism because this process of concealment itself has to be concealed in order to make it effective. Therefore the major part of defense consists of making this whole process unconscious.

K is suggesting, proposing and saying that the self is not the source of thought, but rather thought is the source of the self. This may seem paradoxical to our ordinary experience, but at least we can make it reasonable. The assumption of the self creates inside a kind of image of the self corresponding to that assumption with great power. That image is attributed reality, you get a feeling that it’s real. Therefore, you form the assumption that the self was the thinker, the source of thought, and there is that which you are thinking about, and besides that there is the thought which is produced by the thinker which refers to what he is thinking about. Therefore, the things which really solidly exist in that way are the thinker and what he is thinking about. Thought is a very ethereal, almost non-existent thing. But what is being suggested instead is that the thought process is real, it’s going on in the brain and nervous system, and this thought process contains in it the assumption of a thinker who produces thoughts. It’s as if we were producing a television program of a thinker producing thought and the mind is watching this program so intently that it takes it to be the reality. Therefore, thought now says: I am very modest, I am serving the thinker, but in fact it’s serving itself because it produces this thinker and then does what this thinker wants.

K talked a great deal about conditioning, and he admitted that certain kinds of conditioning were necessary, such as learning to do things. But there is a kind of conditioning around the self which is extremely strong because it contains assumptions of absolute necessity. You see, the self is considered to be something supremely important, whatever it needs is regarded as absolutely necessary, which means that it cannot be otherwise, it cannot yield, and therefore it takes first priority and it pushes everything outside including even the requirement that thought should be correct and true. Therefore it immediately starts self-deception going. That is why the thought becomes dangerous, because if the thought deceives itself it is very very dangerous.

I think the ultimate purpose of K’s work was started very early on his life of his work which was to free humanity from the disruptive conditioning we have been talking about that is this conditioning around the self-centred thought is really an enslavement to absurdity, to disfunction, to unhappiness. No other kind of freedom means anything unless we are free from that and therefore I think he felt that once a man is free from that then the way will be open to creative unfoldment in all sorts of directions.”
